    Course Description

The Bloodborne Pathogens online course developed by the Chief Pathologist of the LAPD provides all of the necessary training for both law enforcement and correctional officers who are annually required to update their training on this subject matter. Officers regularly find themselves dealing with situations involving blood and other bodily fluids that could contain communicable pathogens.  The threat from a potential exposure can be greatly reduced through an understanding of blood-borne pathogens. This blood-borne pathogens course assists the officer in identifying the bodily fluids and viruses that pose a risk, the portals of entry, and what does and does not constitute an exposure.  In addition, he/she will become acquainted with exposure prevention methods and universal precautions to prevent transmission as well as post exposure steps and considerations.
